I’ve been having a lot of trouble finding a shoe that fit. I used to love the Brooks ghost 15 and the new balance 880 but they turned them into Hokas. Everything is too cushy and too big. The Altra experience flow are great if you have a wide foot and a prominent instep. They have 5 mm of drop which is comfortable if you’re used to 10 mm and aren’t ready for a 0 mm barefoot feel. Very happy with them. If you’re having trouble finding a shoe you like, give these a look.

My first road running shoes but these feel so comfortable. No hotspots, super comfortable, and a perfect combination of performance and toe space. I feel like I'm wearing super light slippers and I find myself wanting to wear them casually. Then I hit the road and compared to the average tennis shoes, I feel like I'm running on a cloud. They are very forgiving and help me to keep a smooth and comfortable pace without the charger and high impact of a normal shoe. Went from forcing myself to run, to wanting to run because these shoes take away the unenjoyable aspects of the high impact sport.

I've been wearing these since their first iteration, and these are by far my least favorite. I'm used to these being great out of the box, this version caused major blisters and had a significant break in period, due to the changes they made to the heel (why get rid of the "tongue" shape they always had?). Durability on the sole seems to be reduced as well. I wish they wouldn't have ruined what was a great daily shoe.

I bought these thinking they were zero drop and would make a good easy pace supplemental shoe. When I got them and realized my mistake I decided to just go with it. Swapping these shoes into my marathon training gave me shin splints. It's night and day. Switching back to my zero drop shoes caused it to go away. They feel nice at first, but promote bad form causing injury. It would be nice if Altra made these in zero drop, and with a slightly wider toe box.

Pleases do not ever change the standard fit, Altra. I also enjoy the low 4mm drop, especially for road. The foam is fine. Nothing amazing but not bad. Solid daily trainer which I really enjoy. Design looks great.

I was excited about trying this shoe. I'll admit, Ive been a long time fan of Altra and the zero drop. Ive probably purchased 25+ pairs of Altras, so I know what the quality was. Rather than get upset about them changing to 4mm drop, i decided to atleast give it a shot. This is not it...it lacks cushion and felt flat after about 2-3 runs. For reference I tend to strike fore foot/ mid foot. Maybe this shoe works if you are a heel striker? I've only been wearing it on really easy runs as there is no response or good cushioning to the shoe. Sorry, its a no from me.

The Altra Experience Flow 3 is a versatile daily trainer that combines Altra’s roomy, anatomical fit with a more conventional 4mm drop. It’s lightweight, flexible and particularly well suited for easy miles, recovery runs and walking. The biggest improvement over the previous version is the upper. The new single-layer mesh is significantly more breathable, while the gusseted tongue provides a secure, comfortable lockdown without feeling restrictive. The 32mm stack and EGO P35 foam deliver moderate cushioning without feeling overly soft or bulky. The flexible forefoot and subtle rocker create a smooth, natural transition that never feels like the shoe is dictating your stride. The roomy foot shape toe box is a standout, providing plenty of space for natural toe splay and making the Flow 3 especially comfortable for longer walks or runs. The outsole also deserves mention—the generous rubber coverage provides excellent traction and appears highly durable. Bottom line: A lightweight, natural-feeling daily trainer that offers the comfort and toe-box room Altra fans love, with a 4mm drop that allows runners to transition to lower possibly zero drop.

I’ve ran in every generation now! Did my first marathon in these in 2024. Great space in the toe box and nice to still have a small heel-toe drop. Good amount of cushion but not too excessive.

These shoes are so great to run and walk in. I enjoy the extra space in the toe box.

First time with a bigger sole, like it a lot. Feels like good grip and supremely comfortable as with all Altra's. Typically use a smaller drop shoe, have enjoyed these so far.

I have been using these shoes as my daily trainer as I train for a half marathon this coming fall. It has been great for easy runs, recovery runs, speed sessions, and even some of the shorter long runs as I add mileage. The foot shape toe box is great for my feet and will likely always have a place in my shoe rotation. Altra's are a great shoe but really do require a chance to try them on due to the different shape and fit which is the only thing that holds me from recommending to all.

When you have a good thing going, don't alter it too much. Well, Altra completely destroyed this shoe. It has less cushioning and the ride is literally dead. If you have any bodyweight, your Achilles are going to pay the price. It's not an issue of zero drop. 4mm, or anything else. The shoe literally hits the ground like it's dead. The ground reactive forces are no longer absorbed by the shoe (this is my field so I know a bit about this topic). Cushioning was most certainly stripped out of this shoe from the prior version. It's more than noticeable. They modified the heel and destroyed it. I'm not being gentle with this criticism for a reason. The heel counter is nothing like it was. If you like the Flow 2, you will not like this version. It's mush. It may be a 4mm but you sink so much into the heel that it may as well be 0mm. Avoid this shoe at all costs. The Experience Flow 2 was great. This shoe is not simply the next model in the line. This show is entirely different and poorly made.

Added the Experience Flow to my shoe rotation. Like the easy movement and not overly soft feel.

This is an excellent mid distance shoe for sure. Some times with Altra show you never know how long they are going to last before they start wearing out. After the first 100 miles they seem to be holding up pretty good. If you like the brand then you are going to love these shoes.

Great running shoe. Toe box gives plenty of room, and they are light for the long runs.
