Comfortable For Walking, But Terrible For Running — Caused Lasting Ankle Pain

I really wanted to love these shoes because they initially felt incredibly comfortable, especially for walking. Unfortunately, that comfort absolutely did not translate to long-distance running, and I can no longer wear them at all. I wore these throughout marathon training without any major issues, but during the second half of my marathon, I developed severe pain just above and around my lateral malleolus (outer ankle) from what appears to be excessive pressure caused by the poorly designed tongue. The pain became progressively worse throughout the race, and my ankle was swollen and bruised afterward. Weeks later, I’m still experiencing pain and paresthesia (abnormal nerve sensations) in that exact spot. I’m genuinely concerned about possible nerve damage from the prolonged pressure. The area is now so sensitive that I cannot even put these shoes on without immediately aggravating it. They’re essentially unwearable. What makes this even more concerning is that my husband and brother-in-law also ran the same marathon wearing these shoes, and BOTH experienced ankle pain. Three people wearing the same model, all experiencing ankle issues during the same race, makes me seriously question the design. What’s especially frustrating is that this seems like such a preventable design flaw. The tongue creates a pressure point in an area where there absolutely shouldn’t be one, particularly in a shoe intended for running. I would strongly discourage anyone from purchasing these for long-distance running. A shoe that feels comfortable initially means nothing if it leaves you with lingering pain and potentially injured nerves after a marathon. I’m extremely disappointed because these could have been great shoes if Nike had designed the tongue properly. Unfortunately, I now have a pair of running shoes I physically cannot wear anymore. Nike seriously needs to address this design.

As High school runner who runs Cross Country and track, the Nike Vomero 18 are a great daily trainer for runners and normal people. Great for easy, little tempo, and long runs. Also recommend not to put them in a dryer if their wet from rain, my dumb butt thought it was a great idea but the reactx and zoomx foam was spliting off but overall great for running and walking
